113th Graduation Ceremony Commemorated by Harvard Business School

Harvard Business School (HBS) recently celebrated its 113th Annual Commencement Seminar on its Boston campus. The event marked the graduation of 984 MBA students who attended the diploma presentation ceremony. The graduates were conferred their degrees in front of the school’s Baker Library | Bloomberg Center. Among the graduates, 50 students graduated with honors as Baker Scholars, while 82 students earned diplomas with excellent grades and 198 earned sophomore honors.

The ceremony also saw the participation of seven MBA graduates who received their degrees in March. One student who graduated with honors as a Baker Scholar and two students who graduated with honors were among the participants. Additionally, 20 PhD students received their PhDs in management, business economics, organizational behavior, and health policy management. Three students completed their PhD in Health Policy Management in March 2022, while three students completed PhDs in Business Administration, Health Policy Management, and Organizational Behavior in November 2022.

During the ceremony, Dean Srikant Datar presented the 2023 Alumni Achievement Award to FASN (GMP 18, 2015) Reshma Kewalramani, M.D., CEO and President of Vertex Pharmaceuticals, DePersia Thomas McGruder (1998 MBA), COO and Treasurer, Ford Foundation, Mama’s founder of Black Boys United, Raymond J. McGuire (J.D./MBA 1984), President Lazard, and Antonis C. Samaras (MBA 1976), Member of the Greek Parliament and Prime Minister of Greece, 2012-2015.

In his address to the graduates, Dean Datar encouraged them to reflect on three key behaviors of leadership—listening actively, thinking “and,” and acting courageously. He acknowledged the challenges the graduates face but urged them to see it as a moment of great opportunity. He also expressed his optimism for the future and said that he believes companies can and will continue to play leadership roles in solving society’s most pressing problems.
