Toyota is recalling 145,254 vehicles in the United States due to side airbags that may deploy improperly, according to the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In the event of an accident, the side airbag provides a barrier that helps prevent the car’s occupant from being ejected. However, NHTSA said that in some Toyota vehicles, the driver-side airbag may not deploy as intended and may partially deploy outside of an open window. The recall affects certain 2024 SUVs and hybrids such as the Toyota Grand Highlander, Grand Highlander Hybrid, Lexus TX350, TX500 Hybrid and TX550 Hybrid+. The remedy for the problem is under development, NHTSA said.
