The second major championship of the 2023 golf season is underway and players are eager to get in shape for the rest of the season. Jon Rahm is looking to become the first golfer since 2015 to win the first two major championships of the season. The PGA Championship is taking place at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, NY and marks a return to the city for the first time in ten years. Despite a packed field, the first round was delayed by almost two hours due to frost. The first 18 holes will finish early Friday morning, with the second round scheduled to start at 7am ET.
Rahm and the previous year’s Green Jacket winner, Scotty Schaeffler, entered as the clear favorites to win the tournament. Both are aiming for their first Wanamaker Trophy and hope to complete another step in their respective Career Grand Slams. Rahm got off to a tough start, falling 10 shots behind clubhouse leader Bryson DeChambeau, but Schaeffler is near the top, just one behind Rahm.
