30% of mineral water brands report non-compliant treatments in Mineral Water Sector

The Senate is launching a “flash mission” this Friday, June 7 to control bottled water manufacturers, in response to investigations by Le Monde and Radio France. These investigations revealed that waters labeled as “spring” or “natural mineral” did not meet quality regulations. Anses, the health agency, recommended reinforced surveillance of water catchment sites by Nestlé Waters, prompting the Swiss giant to acknowledge shortcomings. The report noted an insufficient level of confidence and multiple findings of microbiological contamination of fecal origin.

EELV rapporteur Antoinette Guhl supports the necessity of this mission for transparency. It is crucial for bottled water manufacturers to be transparent about the contents of their products, especially when it comes to water quality and safety standards. Consumers deserve to know the truth about what they are drinking and the measures being taken to ensure that it is safe for consumption. By conducting these investigations and raising awareness, regulators can help hold companies accountable and protect public health.
