For over 35 years, high school juniors and seniors have been attending The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science (MSMS) in Columbus, Mississippi. Since 1987, the school has been located on the Mississippi University for Women (MUW) campus, forming a strong partnership between the two institutions. The administrations of both schools are committed to continuing this relationship and supporting the success of MSMS students.
At a recent Town and Tower Meeting at MUW, speakers discussed the history, mission, and achievements of MSMS. The Executive Director and alum of the school, Ginger Tedder, along with original faculty member Emma Richardson and current Director of Academic Affairs Dr. Thomas Easterling, highlighted the unique opportunities available to MSMS students. They emphasized the school’s close connection with Columbus and MUW, noting the importance of community involvement in the success of the program.
MSMS has deep roots in Columbus and has established strong ties with the local community over the years. The school values diversity and exposure to different cultures, providing students with a well-rounded education during their time at MSMS. Town and Tower’s goal is to strengthen the relationship between MUW, Columbus, Lowndes County, and Columbus Air Force Base, further supporting the success and growth of MSMS in the community.
