As of June 28, all 51 Walmart health centers have closed. Walmart Health announced on April 30 that it would be closing all of its clinics and discontinuing its virtual care services. This decision impacted not only the physical health centers but also the virtual care options that were previously offered.

In late May, Walmart Health Virtual Care announced layoffs affecting 74 employees at its corporate headquarters in Phoenix. In addition to this, Walmart also disclosed plans to lay off hundreds of corporate employees and require a majority of its remote workers to relocate. These staffing changes were part of the larger decision to close the health centers and end virtual care services.

The health centers stopped accepting new patients and discontinued virtual care services on June 1. Patients who were currently receiving care through Walmart Health were advised to search for new providers in the area using ZocDoc and Healthgrades.

Walmart’s decision to shutter its health centers and cease virtual care services was motivated by financial considerations. The company cited an unsustainable business model, attributing the decision to a challenging reimbursement environment and increasing costs associated with operating the facilities. These factors ultimately led to the closure of all Walmart health centers.
