Sarah Becker, who worked at a comic book store and appeared on The Real World: Miami, passed away at the age of 52. She died from suicide at her home in Illinois, where she had moved last year to care for her family.
An MTV spokesperson expressed deep sadness over Becker’s passing, offering condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time. The representatives for MTV did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly’s request for comment.
Becker became known when she appeared on Season 5 of MTV’s The Real World: Miami in 1996. At the age of 25, she was a comic book store worker from La Jolla, Calif., who was passionate about skateboarding. Alongside her castmates, Becker was involved in a startup business project where they had $50,000 to work with.
Former cast members of The Real World have shared their thoughts on Becker’s passing. Dan Renzi described the news as very sad, mentioning that he had lost touch with Becker and was unaware of her struggles with mental health since the show ended. Cynthia Roberts and Flora Alekseyeva posted on Instagram, expressing their condolences and remembering Becker as a kind and selfless person. Alekseyeva also expressed surprise about Becker’s inner troubles.
