An 8-year-old girl was rescued by police after her armed father held her hostage inside a smoke shop in Colorado Springs. The incident took place at the Heady Hittaz Headshop off Fillmore and Pennsylvania, where the child’s mother called 911 to report that her boyfriend was threatening to harm himself while holding their daughter inside the building.
The mother reported to police that her boyfriend had a handgun and was making threats of self-harm in front of her and the child. A crisis entry team was quickly formed, including officers from Springs police, UCCS police, and K-9 units. They were able to enter the building and safely remove the 8-year-old girl, while also detaining two adult males without further incident.
During the operation, a semi-automatic handgun was recovered at the scene, and the father was subsequently arrested. Fortunately, no injuries were reported to the child during the incident. This rescue was made possible through the quick and coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies working together to ensure the safety of the child.
