The expectant mother at Bulovka University Hospital in Prague, Czech Republic wanted to ensure the health of her unborn baby. However, a mistake occurred when another woman underwent a procedure intended for her. The mix-up happened during a routine check-up when a patient was scheduled for a curettage, a medical scraping of the uterus, but it was carried out on the wrong woman in a neighboring room. Tragically, the expectant mother suffered a miscarriage as a result of the error.
The Ministry of Health was informed of the incident, and the hospital expressed its condolences to the patient and her family. The director of the hospital and the head of the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics acknowledged the grave mistake and stated that those responsible have been temporarily removed from their positions. The hospital has also announced its readiness to provide compensation to the affected parties.
Both patients involved in the incident are foreign citizens residing in the Czech Republic, but their identities have not been disclosed. The news of the error was first reported by CNN Prima News, prompting discussions about accountability and measures to prevent such mistakes in the future. The hospital’s willingness to address the situation and offer compensation demonstrates a commitment to rectifying the error and providing support to those affected.
