Economic developers in Roanoke County have recently made a significant purchase of a Starkey Road office building. The purchase, which amounted to $1.9 million, was made on May 17 for the former headquarters of Delta Dental of Virginia. This acquisition is part of a secret project that has not yet been revealed to the public. Amy Whittaker, a spokeswoman for the economic development authority of Roanoke County, stated that the project will not be unveiled until summer. The two-story, 12,500-square-foot building was previously occupied by Delta Dental, which has since relocated to a larger facility on Airport Road.
Despite speculation about the nature of the new project, no county official has provided any specific details. County Administrator Richard Caywood has indicated that there are no plans to change the land-use category for the Starkey address. This suggests that the project may involve another office user moving into the building. Furthermore, the fact that the county purchased the furniture along with the building reinforces this idea. More information about the project is expected to be disclosed sometime this summer, according to Caywood.
