Global Citizen will convene a diverse group of political, business, and philanthropic leaders in New York on May 1 and 2. The summit, known as Global Citizen NOW, will focus on seeking support for workable solutions to address issues related to food insecurity, climate change, and public health associated with extreme poverty. The event will feature Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh, Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi, Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg, and other notable figures.
CEO of Global Citizen, Hugh Evans, highlighted the importance of advancing ideas that will drive urgent action to end extreme poverty. The world is facing a crossroads on numerous issues, and this summit aims to make progress in key areas. Participants will include actors Hugh Jackman, Danai Gurira, Dakota Johnson, as well as representatives from corporations like Cisco, Citi, Delta, and PayPal.
Global Citizen NOW will specifically focus on efforts to defeat preventable diseases such as malaria, polio, and HPV. The event will also introduce new initiatives to preserve the Amazon Rainforest and increase investments in Africa through the World Bank. The summit aims to build on momentum generated among Gen Z and millennial leaders at a recent conference in Australia.
In addition to featuring prominent figures from various sectors, the event will highlight the efforts of young advocates through the Global Citizen Prize awards. This will serve to inspire the next generation of change-makers.
