Adapa A/S, located in Aalborg, Denmark, specializes in adaptive mold technology. This innovative technology is designed to replace traditional one-off molds and allows manufacturing companies to produce low-repetition, curved panels faster, more affordably, and in a more sustainable manner. The adaptive molds created by Adapa can be used with various composite materials and processes, including hand lamination and vacuum infusion of materials such as fiberglass, carbon fiber, prepreg, composite preforms, and plywood.

This reconfigurable mold is not limited to hand lamination but also excels in thermoforming thermoplastics commonly used in industries like aerospace, wind energy, marine, and construction. The system can also handle solid surfaces like Corian, Krion, and Hi-Macs, which are frequently used in construction as façade panels. Adapa’s adaptive mold technology extends its versatility to thermoforming glass and the glazing process of PC/PMMA, popular in automotive and architectural sectors.

A recent project launched by Adapa introduced an adaptive mold with the highest number of actuators assembled by the company yet. This mold measures 8.2 meters in length and 5 meters in width and can achieve curvature radii as tight as 400 mm. It has been specially designed to handle complex curves quickly, with a focus on composite products. Adapa A/S states that their reconfigurable mold not only reduces costs and delivery times but also minimizes waste, making it a more sustainable option for manufacturing curved panels.
