Afghanistan defeats Bangladesh to advance to T20 World Cup semifinal

Afghanistan made history by reaching their first-ever T20 World Cup semifinal. The match against Bangladesh was filled with drama, as rain interruptions and a slippery ball made conditions challenging. Despite this, Afghan captain Rashid Khan’s exceptional bowling performance of four for 23 helped restrict Bangladesh to 105 all out, chasing a revised target of 114 off 19 overs.

Opener Litton Das fought valiantly with an unbeaten 54, putting Bangladesh in a strong position to win and qualify for the semifinals on net run-rate at Australia’s expense. However, pacer Naveen ul-Haq’s crucial wickets in the penultimate over sealed a dramatic eight-run victory for Afghanistan, sending them into wild celebrations.

With India’s win over Australia earlier in the day, Afghanistan secured second place in the group, eliminating both Australia and Bangladesh. They will now face South Africa in the semifinal in Trinidad and Tobago, while India will take on England in the other semifinal in Guyana. Afghanistan’s historic achievement has brought joy to their fans and cemented their place among the top teams in T20 cricket.
