Afghanistan began their T20 World Cup campaign with a significant 125-run win over Uganda in Guyana. Debutants Uganda chose to field first as Afghanistan’s opening pair established a strong partnership of 154. Wicketkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 76 off 45 balls while Ibrahim Zadran added 70 off 46 balls, leading Afghanistan to a total of 183-5. Cosmas Kyewuta and Brian Masaba were the standout bowlers for Uganda.
Uganda struggled in their run chase, losing two wickets in the first three balls. Fazalhaq Farooqi’s exceptional performance of 5-9 limited Uganda to just 58 runs. Captain Rashid Khan and Naveen Ul Haq also took two wickets each to dismiss Uganda in 16 overs. Afghanistan will face New Zealand in their next Group C match, while Uganda will play against Papua New Guinea.
