Sergio Massa, the defeated candidate in the second round of the presidential elections in Argentina, has announced that he will continue as Minister of Economy. He has also formed a transition team to support the current Peronist president, Alberto Fernández, in his contacts with the elected president, Javier Milei.
According to sources from the Ministry of Economy, Massa held a meeting with his closest collaborators on Monday to create a work team to help facilitate the government transition with Milei, who is set to take office on 10 December. After acknowledging his defeat to Milei on Sunday, Massa stated that he was ending a stage of his political life.
Sources linked to the minister have told EFE Agency that he was considering stepping down from his post, but would not make any decisions until after a meeting between Alberto and Milei had taken place. This suggests that Massa is keeping his options open and waiting for further developments before making any final decisions.
