After a mass shooting at a splash pad in Rochester Hills, Michigan, police are investigating while the community focuses on mental health and well-being. The shooting occurred at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad on June 15, resulting in nine injuries, including two children. The gunman took his own life hours later.
In response to the shooting, Oakland County officials have made plans to assist those who may be struggling in the aftermath. Vigils are being organized, and meal trains have been established for affected families. The Rochester Hills Department of Public Services building will now serve as a Family Assistance Center for those in need of support.
Therapists will be available for anyone seeking assistance starting Sunday. The Oakland County Health Network, which provided help in the aftermath of the Oxford High School shooting, is mobilizing resources in Rochester Hills. Those in need of support can visit the Family Assistance Center on E Auburn Road without an appointment. Therapists will be available Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.
For those unable to visit the center, a nurse can be contacted at 800-848-5533 on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. The community is urged to reach out for help during this difficult time.
