Ahlstrom Introduces Fluorine-Free Technology for Filtration Uses

By

Jun 27, 2024

Ahlstrom has introduced innovative fluoro-free technologies in various industrial air filtration applications to assist filter manufacturers in developing products with lasting filtration performance without the need for fluorochemicals. The new fluoro-free filtration materials are well-suited for gas turbine air intake, air pollution control, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) applications. These materials possess water-repellent properties that enhance the durability and stability of the final filter, especially in wet conditions. In the global filtration markets, hydrophobic properties play a crucial role in maintaining top-notch filtration performance in challenging environments.

In air pollution control applications, hydrophobic materials help conserve energy by minimizing pressure drop increases in humid conditions. Specifically, in gas turbine applications, water repellency acts as a barrier against liquid water and dissolved salt infiltration, safeguarding the turbine from corrosion.

Tamara Quatrano, Vice President of R&D and Product Development for Filtration at Ahlstrom, emphasizes the company’s commitment to developing safe and sustainable solutions. Launching the fluoro-free portfolio for industrial air filtration applications marks a significant stride towards enabling customers to move away from fluorochemistries. Ahlstrom is dedicated to creating a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable future for filtration by providing alternative fluoro-free solutions that meet performance requirements.

The new fluoro-free filtration materials are readily available worldwide and are produced through Ahlstrom’s Trinitex®, CellTech, and Glass production platforms.
