VinDr, developed by VinBigdata, is the first AI product in Vietnam to meet FDA standards for mammogram analysis. On May 23, the US Food and Drug Administration officially licensed VinDr to be circulated in the Vietnamese market, making Vietnam the 5th country to have an AI product for mammography diagnosis approved by the FDA, joining the ranks of the US, France, the Netherlands, and South Korea.

VinDr has been meticulously researched and evaluated using data sets from various target groups in both the US and Vietnam. The product boasts an impressive accuracy rate of 96.5% with Vietnamese data and 95.8% with American data in automatically classifying mammograms and detecting suspected cases of breast cancer. With advanced AI and computer vision technology, VinDr can assess breast density, classify scans according to BI-RADS standards, and detect early-stage breast lesions.

Dr. Nguyen Quy Ha, the Director of VinBigdata Image Analysis Technology Department, emphasizes the importance of AI in medical image diagnosis and early cancer screening. In Vietnam, there are limitations in early detection of cancer, leading to many cases being diagnosed at a later stage. VinDr aims to provide doctors with more information to prescribe in-depth tests and detect diseases promptly.

In addition to mammogram analysis, VinDr also offers smart diagnostic support tools for other types of images including chest X-rays, spine X-rays, brain CT scans, chest CT scans, CT hepatobiliary scans, and MRI brain scans. The machine can detect and localize nearly 70 common types of abnormalities and diagnose multiple scans simultaneously with speed and accuracy.

The development team behind VinDr has published 20 articles in international journals, including prestigious publications like Nature Scientific Data. The approval from the FDA marks a significant milestone for VinDr, allowing it to enter the global market and showcase the quality and competitiveness of Vietnamese technology products.

With VinDr’s AI capabilities and accuracy in medical image analysis, it has the potential to revolutionize early cancer screening and diagnosis, benefiting both doctors and patients in Vietnam and beyond.
