HONOR has introduced two new features powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Shanghai, aimed at protecting users’ eyesight and helping them detect video ‘deepfakes’. The company’s goal is to empower users and enhance their security through technology.

The first feature, AI Defocus Eye Protection, promotes eye health by inducing a controlled blur in the user’s peripheral vision to maintain clear central vision. This can help prevent and reduce transient myopia by up to 75 degrees in some cases.

In addition, HONOR has developed AI Deepfake Detection, a tool designed to prevent fraud and detect digitally manipulated content. This technology analyzes details like eye contact, lighting, and image clarity to identify flaws that may be imperceptible to the human eye. The tool has been trained with a large data set of videos and images related to online scams, enabling it to compare videos and identify manipulated content in just three seconds.

During a demonstration, HONOR showcased how the tool can alert users when it detects potentially manipulated content, providing a notification that states, “it looks like the other person is using AI to change their face.” These new features represent HONOR’s commitment to using AI technology to enhance user experience and security.
