The Las Vegas Aces secured their fourth consecutive win on Saturday by defeating the Washington Mystics with a score of 88-77. This victory was significant, but it also marked the end of A’ja Wilson’s spectacular streak in the WNBA. Wilson scored only 11 points in the game, breaking her record of 20 or more points in 20 consecutive contests dating back to last season. The previous record was held by Diana Taurasi of the Phoenix Mercury with 13 consecutive 20-point games between the 2006 and 2007 seasons.

A’ja Wilson’s record-setting streak of 20-point games had been ongoing since the previous season and ended at 20 games during this latest match. Wilson’s run began on August 28, 2023, and included the final five games of the previous season as well as all 15 games played this year. She had impressive performances during this period, as seen in eight 30-point games, with two games where she scored 36 points.

Wilson’s dominance in scoring, rebounding, and blocks has made her a standout player in the WNBA this season. Her averages of 28 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game speak to her exceptional talent and contributions to the Aces. In the win against the Mystics, other players like Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray also made important contributions, with Young scoring 26 points and Gray adding 22 points while shooting efficiently from the floor.

Furthermore, in addition to her scoring prowess, Wilson also became the all-time leader in rebounds for the Aces, surpassing Sophia Malcolm-Young with 1,815 rebounds to her name. Despite the end of her 20-point streak, A’ja Wilson’s legacy as a formidable player and record-breaking performer in the WNBA remains undeniable.
