Allegations lead to Craig Monroe being taken off TV broadcasts

Craig Monroe, the Detroit Tigers’ primary television analyst, has been absent from broadcasts since June 7-9 when the Tigers hosted the Milwaukee Brewers. The reason for his absence was confirmed by the Tigers and Bally Sports Detroit, citing allegations made on social media.

On July 2, 2024, WDIV received a statement from Bally Sports Detroit and the Tigers addressing the situation. They stated that they are aware of the social media allegations and are taking them seriously. Monroe has not been on the broadcast schedule since the allegations surfaced and will continue to be absent indefinitely. Any further inquiries should be directed to Monroe himself.

The allegations against Monroe were made by a woman on Twitter and Instagram, accusing him of raping her when she was a child while he stayed with her family during his minor league career with the Port Charlotte Rangers. She further alleges that he engaged in sexual misconduct after leaving Port Charlotte, including during his time with the Tigers.

Monroe, who played for the Tigers from 2003-2007 and has been a member of the Tigers broadcast team for several years, has not issued an official statement regarding the allegations. His MLB career spanned from 2001 to 2009 and included stops in Texas, Detroit, Chicago (Cubs), Minnesota, and Pittsburgh. Monroe played 672 games as a Tiger during his time in Detroit.

As the situation continues to unfold, the Tigers and Bally Sports Detroit have made it clear that they are taking the allegations seriously and will not have Monroe on broadcasts until further notice.
