The Alpena High School track and field team won top honors at the Northland Invitational on Wednesday. The men’s team earned 180 points, beating off Ogemo Heights, Tawas, Petoskey St. Michael, and North Trail. The women’s team finished with 228 points, ahead of Ogemo Heights, Tawas, North Trails, and Petoskey St. Michael. The teams had several winners, including John Kurowski, Joseph Sheridan, Elijah Allen, Cole Harman, Wesley Decker, Maddie Linton, Kyra Plue, and Emma Dickins.
In softball, the Rogers City High School team secured their eighth consecutive conference championship and won the Big Dipper title in the North Star League by defeating the Oscoda Owls. The Hurons improved their record to 18-7-1 on the season and finished 9-1 in the Big Dippers division. They also won the Glen Lake Invitational and split games with Johannesburg Lewiston on Monday.
The Posen softball team won two games against Mio on Wednesday, improving their record to 20-8. Harie Konichesny led the team in both games with impressive statistics.
In baseball, Mio won both games against Posen in a doubleheader on Wednesday. Ethan Romell, Cole Kleiniak, Lucas Mercier, and Joshua Gardner showed an impressive performance for Posen.
Lastly, the Alpena High School men’s golf team finished second in the Big North Conference Championship with a team score of 333. Gavin Hump led the team in fifth place, and Easton Schultz also received All-Conference Honors.
