Amarillo City launches Business Improvement Grant program for local businesses

The City of Amarillo has recently introduced a grant program aimed at assisting business property owners in making improvements in four specific neighborhoods within the city. The Business Improvement Grant (BIG) program is available to commercial property and business owners in the Barrio, Eastridge, North Heights, and San Jacinto neighborhoods who are looking to undertake exterior improvement projects.

Through the BIG program, owners can receive a grant that matches up to 50% of the total project costs. For projects costing $40,000 or more, the maximum match is $20,000. It is important to note that the projects must focus on the exterior of the property or business in order to qualify for the grant.

The program offers owners the opportunity to significantly increase the value of their business or property through various exterior improvement projects such as new paint, doors, or historical preservation. Additionally, the BIG program provides technical and conceptual design guidance to assist owners in their improvement efforts.

Restoration of significant architectural features is also considered in the grant process, making it a comprehensive program aimed at enhancing the overall appearance and value of properties in the designated neighborhoods. For more information on the BIG program or to begin the application process, interested parties can visit the City of Amarillo website.
