An almost perfect situation for Scotland

Former international Qasim Sheikh believes that the current Scottish T20 team is the strongest ever. Scotland is leading Group B in the T20 World Cup with convincing wins over Namibia and Oman, along with sharing points with England in a game affected by rain in Barbados. The team will play against Australia in their final group game in St Lucia on Sunday (01:30 BST), and they know what they need to do to progress.

Scotland’s net run-rate is 2.164, while England’s is -1.800. The defending champions will need to make up the difference in net run-rate when they face Namibia and Oman. Sheikh believes that Scotland is in a favorable position and that a win against Australia will put them in a strong position.

Scotland has been showing improvement since their first World Cup appearance in 1999. The team’s belief is growing, and they are hungry for success, particularly against strong opponents like Australia. Brandon McMullen shone with the bat in the recent game against Oman, scoring 61 not out from 31 balls and helping Scotland secure a crucial win.

McMullen, who made his Scotland debut in December 2022, has been in impressive form with averages of 45 in one-day internationals and 33 in T20s. Sheikh praised his performance and commended his ability to adapt to international cricket quickly. The team’s batters have been in good form, which bodes well for their upcoming matches.

The team’s focus now shifts to their game against Australia, where they will look to build on their strong performances so far in the tournament. Scotland will need to maintain their momentum and continue raising the bar to secure a place in the later stages of the T20 World Cup.
