The unmanned aerial vehicle, also known as a drone, droneRPA, or UAS, has become increasingly popular in recent years for various purposes such as filming, commercials, competitions, games, and more. However, their significance in warfare has become particularly evident in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Drones are being utilized to locate enemy targets, direct artillery fire, and even transport explosive charges. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has approved the establishment of a branch of the Armed Forces that focuses on drone operations.

Despite the advancements in drone technology, it has been discovered that an ancient weapon – the lance – is capable of taking down these unmanned vehicles. The simple yet effective lance can easily be attached to vehicles, reminiscent of medieval combat. A strike from a lance can cause drones to lose their balance, rendering them incapacitated. In Ukraine, drones are now being equipped with sticks for arial combat, showcasing the juxtaposition of ancient weapon technology against modern warfare.

The origin of the spear dates back to prehistoric times, approximately 300 thousand years ago. This fact was reported by the newspaper La Vanguardia, highlighting the enduring legacy of this weapon. A video shared by user TheRealBuni on the social network X (formerly Twitter) demonstrated a drone being shot down by another drone using a spear, exemplifying the ancient weapon’s continued usefulness in combating modern vehicles. The constant evolution and adaptation of technology showcase how the world moves forward and backward simultaneously, merging historical tactics with contemporary advancements.
