Annual event at School of Public Health ignites passion for future public health leaders

Loma Linda University School of Public Health (SPH) recently hosted its annual Careers in Public Health event, welcoming over 30 aspiring professionals on June 23. The event provided a unique opportunity for participants to learn about the school’s master’s degree programs and gain insight into the world of public health.

Participants at the event included high school and undergraduate students who engaged in hands-on activities designed to bring public health concepts to life. These activities included simulations of a refugee camp, addressing team conflicts in an ICU, and contributing to a local community garden by planting seeds. These interactive exercises highlighted the diverse nature of public health work and showcased the field’s varied courses.

Dr. Adam Aréchiga, the dean of the school, stressed the importance of inspiring the next generation of public health professionals through events like Careers in Public Health. He emphasized the impact that future leaders can make in local and global communities and the significance of showcasing the school’s programs to inspire the next generation of professionals.

In addition to interactive activities, the event featured networking booths where attendees could connect with program directors and learn about various career paths in public health. Dr. Richard H. Hart, president of Loma Linda University Health, delivered a keynote address underscoring the critical role of public health in today’s world and the importance of shaping future professionals through events like Careers in Public Health.
