AP source: Dolphins sign safety Marcus Maye

The Miami Dolphins have agreed to sign safety Marcus Maye, according to a source familiar with the negotiations who spoke to The Associated Press. The person requested anonymity as the deal had not been officially announced. Maye was released by the New Orleans Saints in March after spending two seasons with the team. During his time with the Saints, Maye recorded 97 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, and two interceptions.

Maye, a second-round pick by the New York Jets in 2017, has been a consistent performer in his five seasons in the NFL. He has eight career interceptions, five forced fumbles, and 4 1/2 sacks. One of his notable plays was in 2018 when he returned an interception 104 yards before being tackled at the 1-yard line.

Despite missing three games last season due to a suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, Maye has continued to be a sought-after safety in the league. The Dolphins also added Jordan Poyer, a former Buffalo Bills safety, to their roster earlier in the offseason.

The signing of Maye strengthens the Dolphins’ defense and adds depth to their secondary. His experience and playmaking abilities will be valuable assets to the team as they look to improve their performance in the upcoming season.
