A fire in an apartment building in Techentin, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has left 13 residents homeless. The fire occurred late on Wednesday evening, causing the roof structure of the house on “Am Umspannwerk” street to catch fire around 9:30 p.m. Authorities suspect serious arson as the cause of the fire. Thankfully, all 13 tenants were able to evacuate safely thanks to the efforts of rescue workers.
Seventy-five firefighters from neighboring volunteer fire departments arrived at the scene with 15 vehicles to combat the major fire. By the time they arrived, the roof structure was already fully engulfed in flames. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with the criminal police looking into the suspicion of particularly serious arson. The police estimate the material damage caused at 800,000 euros.
Techentin and the nearby Ludwigslust have experienced several fires in recent years, leading authorities to suspect arson as the cause. Previous incidents include a fire on the fire brigade’s training ground in Techentin and a fire that destroyed sales stalls used for events like the Christmas market. Investigations into these incidents have pointed towards arson as the likely cause.
In response to the escalating number of fires in the area, authorities are taking steps to enhance security and investigate each incident thoroughly. Residents and officials are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to prevent further incidents of arson.
