Apple recently introduced new AI applications, but these will not be available in the European Union due to concerns about the European Digital Markets Act DMA. Apple stated that the interoperability requirements of the DMA could compromise user privacy and data security, leading to the decision not to launch the new features in the EU this year.

The core of Apple’s AI vision involves giving software access to users’ data to personalize services. The system, known as ‘Apple Intelligence’, is designed to quickly answer questions, summarize emails, and prioritize them based on importance. Other features like ‘iPhone Mirroring’ and ‘SharePlay Screen Sharing’ will also be unavailable in the EU.

Apple is in discussions with the European Commission to find a solution to the DMA compatibility issues. While a resolution is being sought, European users will not have access to the latest AI applications from Apple. These developments highlight the complexities of introducing new technology in a global marketplace with differing regulatory frameworks.
