Apple’s 1987 Video Predicted the Rise of Apple Intelligence

AI can be a scary concept, with the fear that it may take over jobs and possibly even harm the planet. However, there is a more relaxed version of AI that exists – one that acts as a personal assistant to help with various tasks. This type of AI can remember things for you, find information, and even assist in creating presentations for work.

It’s interesting to note that this vision of AI as a personal assistant has been promoted by Apple for decades. In fact, a video produced by Apple in 1987 showcased a theoretical “Knowledge Navigator” that allowed users to interact with a digital agent to perform tasks that were previously unimaginable. The digital agent could remember things, find information, and aid in work presentations.

This concept is reminiscent of Apple’s Siri, which was launched in 2011. John Herrman from New York points out the similarities between the digital agent in the 1987 video and Apple’s description of Siri. He suggests that Apple’s recent advancements in AI may be an evolution of Siri, under the name “Apple Intelligence.” The idea of a more functional Siri is presented in a recent demo by Apple, emphasizing the capabilities of AI in assisting individuals with various tasks.
