The European Commission has approved the fifth instalment of Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan, totaling 11 billion euros. This payment comes after Italy successfully met the requirements for 52 planned goals and objectives. The payment is intended to support reforms and investments in areas such as competition law, waste management, education, and public spending.

The approval from the European Commission is a positive development for Italy, with key measures including reforms in waste management and the education system. The Commission highlighted the progress made by Italy and noted that the country had advanced two objectives earlier than expected. However, there was one objective related to public procurement and concessions that required further clarification, and Italy planned to submit a request for an amendment.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni welcomed the approval of the fifth instalment, noting that Italy had exceeded expectations by reaching additional objectives. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the funding for Italy and its citizens, highlighting the positive impact it would have. The approval from Brussels was seen as a validation of the government’s efforts and a rebuttal to critics who had doubted Italy’s ability to utilize the European funds effectively.
