According to a report from David Ornstein of The Athletic, Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson has expressed his desire to consider a transfer this summer. The Gunners are said to be looking for a fee of around £20m, including add-ons, to let Nelson go. Several clubs, including Crystal Palace, Fulham, Nottingham Forest, and West Ham United, have shown interest in the 24-year-old winger.
Nelson, who is under contract with Arsenal until 2027 with an option to extend to 2028, has only played 639 minutes for the first team in the 2023/24 season. Despite moments of brilliance, such as providing assists in a Champions League match against PSV, Nelson found himself dropping out of the squad towards the end of the campaign.
Given his limited minutes and the potential for profit from his sale, a fee of up to £20m seems reasonable for Nelson. It is possible that he may need to accept a lower wage if he moves to one of the interested clubs. However, as the one initiating the transfer talks, Nelson may be open to compromise in order to secure a move away from Arsenal.
If Arsenal are able to secure a decent fee for Nelson, it would provide them with financial flexibility in the transfer market. The immediate profit from the sale of an academy player like Nelson could benefit the club in terms of accounting and future investments.
