Arsenal is closely monitoring Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori’s situation and is considering joining the race for the 22-year-old’s signature. The recruitment team at Arsenal has been impressed by Calafiori, who had a standout performance at the European Championship with Italy.
Despite strong links with Juventus, Arsenal is not the only team interested in signing Calafiori. The Bologna defender made 33 appearances last season and earned his first call-up to the Italian national team. Bologna finished fifth in Serie A, and Calafiori played in all three of Italy’s group stage games at Euro 2024.
However, he was suspended for the round of 16 knockout tie against Switzerland, where Italy lost 2-0 without him. Giovanni Sartori, the technical director of Bologna, stated that there is a desire to keep Calafiori at the club, but they will consider serious offers that come their way.
Sartori mentioned that while there is talk of Juventus, as well as other teams, they will try to keep Calafiori but will evaluate any significant requests that may come in. If Arsenal does decide to pursue Calafiori, it could impact the future of Poland centre-back Jakub Kiwior at the club.
Kiwior has been linked with a move back to Italy in recent months. Arsenal fans will be eager to see how the situation unfolds and whether they will be successful in securing Calafiori’s services.
