Yahoo News is incorporating Artifact AI-powered technology into its app to enhance the news consumption experience for viewers. With the launch of the reimagined app on Thursday, AI features will be used to improve news recommendations, reduce clickbait, and save time through takeaways.

The SVP and GM of Yahoo News expressed the belief that the app can help individuals to stay informed, understand the world around them, and enjoy catching up on the news. The goal is to provide a news experience that is simple, relevant, and useful for each user, with the new app being just the beginning of this initiative.

In March, Yahoo acquired Artifact, a news aggregation platform driven by AI technology created by Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. The focus of the deal was on acquiring Artifact’s AI tech rather than its staff. In April, Yahoo announced plans to integrate the AI-powered technology across its various products, including the Yahoo News app.

The integration of Artifact’s AI technology into the Yahoo News app includes a personalized feed where users can select topics and publishers to monitor, while blocking keywords and flagging clickbait to control the content within their feed. Users can also share content seamlessly through the app.

Yahoo will also introduce a new homepage experience for users, featuring a dynamic layout with personalized recommendations and real-time trending topics. This shift towards AI integration across the company’s products signals a commitment to providing a more customized and efficient news consumption experience for viewers.
