Aryna Sabalenka, who recently became the No. 1 ranked player, had a convincing victory over Zheng Qinwen of China, securing her spot in the U.S. Open semifinals. Sabalenka, the reigning Australian Open champion from Belarus, has not dropped a set in the tournament so far, making her the only singles player with this achievement. This marks her fifth consecutive Grand Slam semifinal appearance. Regardless of her performance in the U.S. Open, Sabalenka will ascend to the top spot in the world rankings, taking over from Iga Swiatek.

Looking ahead to the semifinals, Sabalenka awaits the winner of the quarterfinal match between Marketa Vondrousova and Madison Keys. Among the remaining players in the draw, Sabalenka is the highest-ranked player above American Coco Gauff. Gauff, seeded sixth, will face Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic in her semifinal match.

In the men’s quarterfinals, there will be an all-Russian showdown between Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev, who is also the godfather of Medvedev’s daughter. Additionally, top seed and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will face Alexander Zverev of Germany in the night session.
