The Hyundai Group continues to dominate prestigious vehicle awards, particularly in the electric vehicle category. In both 2020 and 2021, Kia and Hyundai vehicles swept major titles at the World Car of the Year competition. In 2022, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 took home multiple awards, followed by the Hyundai Ioniq 6 in 2023. This year, Kia made a comeback with the EV9 winning the 2024 World Car of the Year and World Electric Vehicle awards, while the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N secured the World Performance Car title.

Judged by a panel of one hundred automotive journalists from 29 countries, vehicles competing for the main prize must have production exceeding 10,000 units annually, be available in at least two major global markets, and be priced below luxury options in their regions. The EV9 beat out competitors like BYD Seal and Volvo EX30 for the top title.

In the electric vehicle category, the EV9 surpassed vehicles like the BMW i5 and Volvo EX30. Other winners included the BMW 5 Series and i5 for World Luxury Car, and the EX30 for World Urban Car.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N emerged victorious among 16 other performance cars, beating out competitors like the M2 and XM. The Toyota Prius was a surprising inclusion and won the 2024 World Car Design of the Year award, surpassing finalists like the Ford Bronco and Ferrari Purosangue.
