Atalanta are in search of new defenders this summer and have set their sights on Sheffield United’s centre back Anel Ahmedhodzic, according to local reports. The Serie A club is looking to strengthen their squad after convincing Gian Piero Gasperini to continue the project in Bergamo. Despite some brief speculation about Gasperini’s departure following their Europa League win, he has chosen to stay with Atalanta.
With Jose Luis Palomino set to leave on a free transfer and Giorgio Scalvini recovering from a cruciate ligament tear, Atalanta is in need of defensive reinforcements. As per reports from Corriere di Bergamo via TMW, Atalanta is particularly interested in Ahmedhodzic as they look to take advantage of Sheffield United’s relegation to secure the talented defender at a low cost.
Ahmedhodzic, 25, is under contract with Sheffield United until June 2026 but his club’s drop to the Championship could see him available for as little as €10m. Atalanta is eager to bring in the defender to strengthen their backline for the upcoming season.
