Vogue global editorial director Anna Wintour described the event as an opening ceremony celebrating 100 years of fashion and sport, as well as the city of Paris. Victor Wembanyama, the top pick in the 2023 NBA draft, received Rookie of the Year honors in his first professional season. Joe Burrow, a star wide receiver recently traded to the Houston Texans, has over 800 career receptions in the NFL.
Venus Williams, well-known for her successful tennis career, has seven Grand Slam singles titles and an undefeated record in Grand Slam doubles when paired with her sister Serena. Eileen GuGu, the youngest Olympic champion in freestyle skiing, won gold medals in big air and halfpipe at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Other notable athletes present at the event included Chloe Kim, who won back-to-back gold medals in snowboard halfpipe at the 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics, becoming the first woman to achieve this feat. Marie-José Pérec, a triple gold medalist at the 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics, Maria Sharapova, who retired from professional tennis in 2020 after a successful career, and Casper Ruud, who triumphed in the 2024 Barcelona Open in April.
