The Athletics have traded recently DFA’d infielder J.D. Davis to the New York Yankees along with cash considerations in exchange for infielder Jordan Groshans. This move was announced by the A’s on Sunday afternoon following a report by MLB Network’s Jon Morosi.
Davis was designated for assignment on June 17th after struggling at the plate this season with a .236 batting average, .304 on-base percentage, and .366 slugging percentage along with four home runs and five RBI in 135 at-bats. In return, the A’s acquire Groshans, a former first-round pick by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2018.
Groshans has spent most of his career in the minor leagues with a brief major-league stint with the Miami Marlins in 2022 where he hit .262/.308/.312 with one home run and two RBI in 61 at-bats. The 24-year-old utilityman is capable of playing multiple positions, including first base, third base, shortstop, and outfield, providing the A’s with added depth. Welcome to the Green and Gold, Jordan!
