According to the 2023 Athlon Sports Preseason announcements on Monday, seven University of Kentucky football players have qualified for the All-America and All-Southeastern Conference teams. Among them, sophomore Barrion Brown from Nashville, Tennessee, stands out as a kick returner who has earned All-America 4th Team honors. Brown’s impressive performance also earned him a spot on the All-SEC second team as a specialist and third team offense as a wide receiver. As a freshman, he broke the record for most yards and passes received in a season. He was ranked 4th in the nation in average yardage kick returns and 2nd in the SEC.
Senior running back Ray Davis from San Francisco was named to the All-SEC second-team offense. He rushed for over 1,000 yards and made history as the tenth player in Commodore history to reach such a milestone in a single season. Sophomore defensive lineman Deonee Walker from Detroit and senior outside linebacker JJ Weaver from Louisville, Kentucky, were named to the All-SEC second-team defense. Walker had a monumental freshman season in 2022 while Weaver had a strong senior year.
Super senior offensive lineman Kenneth Horsey from Sanford, Florida, was named to the All-SEC third-team offense as one of the team’s key players. He played in 33 straight games and made significant contributions in his position. Sophomore wide receiver Dane Key from Lexington, Kentucky, is known for his incredible catches and was named to the All-SEC 4th Team offense. Junior inside linebacker Trevin Wallace from Jessup, Georgia, finished 5th on the team in tackles and was named to the All-SEC No. 4 defenseman.
