Atlanta’s Former Coca-Cola Museum Demolished to Make Way for Parking Lot

The building that once housed the original World of Coca-Cola in downtown Atlanta is currently being demolished by Georgia’s state government. The state government purchased the building from Coca-Cola in 2005 for $1 million and has plans to convert the site into a parking lot.

The original World of Coca-Cola opened in 1990 and was once a popular indoor attraction in Atlanta. However, the building has been vacant since Coca-Cola moved out in 2007. The decision to demolish the building was made by state officials due to the need for additional parking near the Georgia Capitol complex.

The new Coca-Cola museum in Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park has become a popular tourist destination since opening in 2007. The park is now the heart of the city’s tourism industry, surrounded by various hotels and attractions such as the Georgia Aquarium, the College Football Hall of Fame, and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights.

The demolition of the original World of Coca-Cola building is projected to be complete by August 1 at a cost of just under $1.3 million. The demolition is necessary to create new parking spaces near the Georgia Capitol complex as part of a construction project to build a new legislative office building. Lawmakers agreed to spend $392 million on this project, which is expected to be complete by the end of 2026.
