Avonte Maddox and Eagles Reach Agreement on One-Year Contract

Apr 4, 2024

The Eagles have re-signed cornerback Avonte Maddox to a one-year deal, bringing a member of their secondary back into the fold. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 28-year-old Maddox has dealt with multiple injuries over the last two seasons, playing only 13 games in that span. He suffered a pectoral injury early on in the 2023 season but was activated off injured reserve just before the postseason.

Maddox was originally selected by the Eagles in the fourth round of the 2018 draft and has been with the organization ever since. After being released by Philadelphia last month, he took a free-agent visit with New Orleans before ultimately re-signing with the Eagles.

In his 64 career games with 38 starts, Maddox has recorded 31 passes defensed, four interceptions, eight forced fumbles, and 3.0 sacks. Despite his injury history, the Eagles have decided to bring him back for another season and add depth to their secondary.
