Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made a statement on Monday that did not show any signs of appeasement towards Israel. He praised the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas for carrying out a deadly attack on October 7, which he believed was a decisive blow to the Zionist regime. During a speech marking the 35th anniversary of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s death, the founder of the Islamic Republic, Khamenei stated that the attack happened at the right time and was a well-executed job.
The attack by Hamas sparked a war in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of 1,190 people on the Israeli side, many of whom were civilians. The aftermath of the attack led to a significant number of hostages being taken, with some still being held in Gaza. On the Palestinian side, over 36,000 civilians have been killed in the Gaza Strip due to Israeli bombings and operations, as reported by the Gaza government’s Health Ministry led by Hamas.
Khamenei continued to express his disdain towards Israel, stating that the Zionist regime is gradually disintegrating and that America will eventually have to withdraw its support. Iran positions itself as one of the main supporters of Hamas, a part of the “axis of resistance” that includes Tehran’s allies in the Middle East. Khamenei delivered these remarks in front of a large audience gathered at the Khomeini mausoleum near Tehran.
Overall, the statement by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei reflects Iran’s strong support for Hamas and its unwavering stance against Israel.
