Baltimore Orioles call up ex-Nebraska player

Former Husker Cade Povich is set to make his Major League Baseball debut on Thursday afternoon after being called up by the Baltimore Orioles. Povich is the 41st Nebraska baseball player to reach the big leagues, and he will be facing the Toronto Blue Jays at 12:07 p.m. CT.

During his time in Triple-A Norfolk, Povich had a strong showing with a 5-1 record in 11 starts and a 3.18 ERA. He also recorded 75 strikeouts in 56.2 innings pitched. The left-handed pitcher had impressive seasons at Nebraska in 2020 and 2021, posting a 7-3 record with a 3.52 ERA in 102.1 innings.

Initially drafted by the Minnesota Twins, Povich was acquired by Baltimore in the Jorge Lopez trade in August of 2022. Fans can watch Povich in action as the Orioles take on the Blue Jays in Toronto this afternoon. The game is scheduled to start at 12:07 p.m.
