The representative of the Homeland Movement, Stephen (Stjepo) Nikola Bartulica, faces financial troubles if he doesn’t earn his monthly salary of 7854 euros in the European Parliament. His reported debt amounts to 570,000 euros, with loan installments and repayments exceeding the income he and his wife bring in. Bartulica has failed to disclose his additional sources of income, only claiming on social media that he is under attack by leftists. However, the Commission for decision-making on the conflict of interest is looking into the matter further.
The situation started with the purchase of a house on the island of Prvi near Šibenik for 300,000 euros, with a loan of 270,000 euros taken out by Bartulica. He also has a loan of 270,000 euros on an apartment in Zagreb. Bartulica borrowed an additional 30,000 euros from Vjekoslav Guci to cover the remaining cost of the house. This loan was not reported in the property card, along with other potential sources of income Bartulica may have. The Croatian Socialist Democratic Party has initiated a procedure questioning the Minister of Health, Beroš, and Bartulica has responded with accusations and claims of financial responsibility.
Despite owning a car worth HRK 115,000 and having access to loans from acquaintances, Bartulica has always claimed to have no savings or additional income beyond what is stated in his property card. The questions surrounding his financial situation and undisclosed sources of income remain unanswered, shedding light on the complexities of his financial dealings and public image.
