In the 2024 NBA Draft, the Boston Celtics, under the leadership of President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens, made their first-round selection by picking wing player Baylor Scheierman from Creighton with the 30th overall pick. Scheierman, standing at 6-foot-7, had an impressive college career with the Bluejays, averaging 18.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game in his last season. Known for his shooting abilities, he shot 44.8 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from beyond the arc, making him a valuable addition to the Celtics’ bench.

A standout statistic for Scheierman is that he is the only player in Division I men’s history to have accumulated over 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 500 assists, and 300 three-pointers during his collegiate career, showcasing his versatility and skill across different aspects of the game. Throughout his five years in college basketball, he averaged 13.8 points per game and maintained a 39 percent shooting accuracy from long-range. After spending his initial three years at South Dakota State, Scheierman made a transfer to Creighton in 2022 to further develop his game.

Looking ahead, the Celtics still have the 54th overall pick in the draft, with Stevens expressing his intention to use both of their selections. The continuation of the 2024 NBA Draft, including the second round, is set to commence on Thursday at 4 p.m. ET. The team’s decision to acquire Scheierman demonstrates their commitment to building a competitive roster and finding talented players who can contribute effectively on the court.
