Biden aims to highlight differences with Trump on health care in North Carolina

Mar 26, 2024

President Biden and Vice President Harris made a trip to North Carolina to highlight the anniversary of the Affordable Care Act and criticize the health care agenda of the Republicans. Biden spoke in Raleigh, the state capital, which his campaign sees as a potential opportunity to win in the upcoming election after losing to Trump in 2020.

The visit coincided with the 14th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act being signed into law, but Biden used the occasion to criticize Trump and the Republicans for their attempts to limit abortion and reduce health care coverage. He mentioned the numerous times Trump and Republicans tried to repeal the Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare, without success. Biden pointed out a budget proposal from the Republican Study Committee that proposed cuts to the Affordable Care Act and entitlement programs.

Biden criticized Trump’s remarks about taking credit for the end of Roe v. Wade and his controversial comments about punishing women who have abortions. He emphasized the importance of moving forward together, protecting democracy, ensuring health care as a right, and restoring the freedom to choose.

North Carolina is expected to be a critical battleground in the upcoming election, with both presidential and gubernatorial races at the forefront. Recent polling showed Biden narrowing Trump’s lead in North Carolina from 9 percentage points to 6 percentage points.
