Biden: “Halt in Arms Supply to Israel if Ground Offensive in Rafah Persists”

The last pro-Palestinian activists were removed from the Binnengasthuis grounds of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) on Wednesday evening. The police dragged the demonstrators off the site one by one, an ANP reporter saw. They are led towards Rokin, where a large group of demonstrators has already gathered. Devastation has been caused on and around the site. There are paving stones and pallets everywhere that the demonstrators had used to build barricades. The walls are defaced with slogans such as “Free Palestine”.

Most demonstrators wear face masks or scarves over their faces to avoid being recognized. Amnesty International has been present since 4:30 pm this afternoon with a team of observers to collect data, images and information about the protest and eviction. “We do this so that we have facts at our disposal to enter into discussions with the local authority,” a spokesperson said. “We have been given sufficient space by the police to do our work.”

The demonstration and eviction at the University of Amsterdam sparked international attention, with observers from Amnesty International present to document and collect data. The site of the protest showed signs of destruction, with barricades made of paving stones and pallets left behind by the demonstrators. Slogans like “Free Palestine” were seen defacing the walls in the area.

To avoid recognition, many demonstrators wore face masks or scarves while being removed from the Binnengasthuis grounds. The police led them towards Rokin, where a large group of protestors had gathered earlier. Amnesty International’s presence since 4:30 pm was to ensure the collection of accurate data and images for discussions with local authorities. They were granted space by the police to carry out their observations.
