COAST recently hosted two successful health fairs in early summer, specifically catering to older residents. The first fair took place at the Madisonville Activity Center on May 31 and attracted around 90 attendees. The second fair was held at the Slidell Activity Center on June 14 and drew in over 100 people. Each event featured vendors specializing in health and wellness, providing attendees with health screenings, massage therapy, mental health support, community resource information, and interactive fitness demonstrations. Chef Jeff Mattia from Pyre BBQ also conducted cooking demonstrations, focusing on the benefits of anti-inflammatory foods and providing healthy food samples for guests to enjoy.
Participants at the health fairs had the chance to win door prizes that supported a healthy lifestyle, such as Instant Pots and Magic Bullet blenders. All attendees received a COAST backpack filled with giveaways and information. These health fairs were aimed at empowering older adults to take charge of their health, gain knowledge, and connect with local resources and community support. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of these events! COAST looks forward to hosting more events like this in the future.
