Livingstone University’s men’s golf team finished third in postseason and secured a seventh-place finish out of 20 teams in the NCAA Atlantic/East Super Regional held in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Livingston hit 312, 298, and 300 shots in total. Although the team finished 15th after the first round, it moved up in the final two days. Davis and Elkins University won the regional title with 892 hits, while Emmanuel Jaquiza led the Blue Bears with 79-75-72 — 226 and tied for 23rd place.
Nick Riary, from East Rowan, and his team at UNC Greensboro competed in the Division I Las Vegas area and gave an excellent performance. At local golf GARS, McCanless couple Pam Carver recorded the longest putt for Mother’s Day and had a great experience alongside Ralph Carver, Calvin Smith, and Lenny Mazurri.
College baseball’s freshman outfielder Kane Kepley from South Rowan finished sixth in the game and tied the program record with six hits, including a cycle. Kepley opened the game with his first college home run and went on to hit a grounder, a triple, a double, and three singles.
In Rowan County Women’s Football, Salisbury, West Rowan, South Rowan, and North Rowan were eliminated in the first round of the season. In Swain County’s 1A, Maia Burrows Carr scored five goals in a 9-0 win over North Rowan. In the South Piedmont Conference, teams like Lake Norman Charter and Central Cavallas won their first-round matches, as did Central Carolina Conference teams West Davidson, East Davidson, and South Davidson.
Salisbury Parks and Recreation has announced the dates for its 2023 Summer Sports Camps. Meanwhile, Wingate Bulldogs won the South Atlantic Conference Echols Athletic Excellence Award for their 15th straight win in the 2022-23 season.
